CUB SCOUT MONTHLY THEMES
DO YOUR BEST
One question I am often asked is "Do we have to follow the themes?" The answer is "NO". These themes are only recommended. Packs and dens may choose to follow these themes or come up with their own.
"To what advantage is there to following the themes?" National publications, Boy's Life, local training's and Roundtables use these themes to develop material for use by leaders for their den and unit's activities. This material is usually available to leaders several months in advance. If National themes are not followed, this material may not be available when needed. I recommend that the National themes be followed as closely as possible.
Remember that Roundtables are usually providing material based on the following month's National theme. This means that if "High Country, USA" is the theme for August, Roundtable will be covering High Country, USA at the July meeting. This allows time for the leaders to work the material they receive from Roundtable into the Pack and Den programs.
NOTE: This is not written in stone but is to help leaders better understand the theme.
