Touch This Cloth
(from ~Valerie in SF Utah)

And speaking of Christmas, there's a beautiful poem called "Touch This Cloth".
I thought of copying the poem, maybe on vellum and doing it as an overlay on a Nativity picture. Then for the cloth, I thought of the flour sack towels, you can purchase some decent quality ones inexpensively at Wal-mart and like stores. These would be a simple and again inexpensive gift for a Super Saturday project, to give to family members, neighbors, VT, Board members etc. I plan on making these for my HFPE leader and "crew" as well as for family members. You could embroidery on the towel a star or poinsettia etc. if you were really ambitious (which I am, but my expectations never meet my reality!!!!).
This was written by Janis Feichtner, Christmas 1999
"Touch This Cloth"
By: Janis Feichtner, Christmas 1999
Touch this cloth to your face and remember if you will
The night long ago when all was so still
When in a lowly stable a mother gave birth
To a child, the Savior to all the earth.
In his mother's arms he was held so tight
Kept safe from the chill that would come in the night,
His skin was so soft, and his face oh, so sweet
Such love would he feel for each stranger he'd meet.
The star shone bright, herald angels did sing
Wise men came from afar, shepherds stood round the King
The babe safely lay as they came and they left
At his feet did they set their offerings and gifts.
As you think of the great gift that was shared by our Father
Imagine what you'd have felt had you been his mother,
Having carried within you, this small child, yet so strong
Who would teach, and walk tall, bringing blessings to all.
So touch this cloth to your face, remember if you will
The night long ago when all was so still
When in a lowly stable a mother gave birth
To a child, the Savior to all the earth.
