| Mother's Day
I got all these ideas from
dltk-holidays.com.
The card folds so the poem goes in
the center, then have the children glue the heart flower together on to
the front of the card and color.

I made the chicken and put her in a
construction paper nest. Then put all the baby chicks under her
wing. When we go in to closing exercises the children get their
chick and sit on it to keep it warm. Then when we go back to the
classroom after primary to pick up their papers, crafts, etc., they put
the chick back under the mother hen's wing. This helps them stay in
their seats. |

I used two toilet paper rolls, taped them

I then glued to rolls, and punched holes and
put yarn to make binoculars.
I then let children decorate before going
outside to use.

I tried to send the smiley/frowny
picture that I scanned in and then made small enough to put 4 on a
page in word, but it was so large, it would never go through, so
here are the instructions of what I did.
I took a regular sized cheap paper
plate and had the children glue a quarter size smiley/frowny face
in the middle. I then had them glue "If you chance to
meet a frown, do not let it stay, quickly turn in upside
down" on the upper left side, kitty corner above the frowny
face. Then you turn the face upside down and glue "and
smile that frown away" to the upper left corner. Then
turn back over and on the upper right side of the frowny side
"no one likes a frowny face, change it for a smile".
Then turn over to smiley and upper right, "make the world a
better place by smiling all the while.

If
you use this or any other copy from the internet, the words are not
clear. If you try to enlarge to a full page size it gets worse.
This comes from page 37 of the Friend, September 1997. I think
instead of having it be a triangle, like it says in the Friend, I will
cut out all the pieces and have the children glue on to colored
construction paper. I am going to just copy it from the
Friend itself so it will be full size and readable. If you need to
use a copy from the internet or this one, you can cut off the words and
just write them.

Lesson 29
This
came from a 1987 Friend.
There are 3 ways I can do this. Either
cut each piece out and have the children glue on to a construction
paper booklet, or just cut on the lines, punch holes in the top and tie
with yard, or cut on line and cut in half horizontally and punch holes
and tie with yard. Then have kids color. Mine tend to either
want to color or glue.

I didn't use these as a puzzle. I cut out the
candle and glued it in the middle of a yellow sheet of paper, I then cut
out around the other pictures and had the children glue them on to their
papers. Before we did this craft, we fished for examples of the pictures
and discussed them.

| Lesson 38
Instead of making the cup music makers, I got
an idea on the internet and used. I took one of the cheap white paper
plates and folded it in half, I stapled several strips of crepe paper (had
some left over from my daugher's rainbow party, so had all colors of the
rainbow) stacked on top of each other on each side near the fold. I put
in beans, then stapled at the top, then used packing tape to close it up
and cover the staples. I then supplied colored pencils and stars for them
to decorate with.
We had to go out in the area we have between
the outside door and the inner door, kind of a buffer zone for the
children to use them because they are so noisy and we are right next to
the primary room and another class, only curtains separating us. But they
loved them.
