We took turns having each class go with the sister missionaries door to door asking for a donation of a canned good to donate to our city’s food pantry. When they would give the children the can or cans, we would thank them and give them a Pass Along Card. It made the children feel good by doing a service for the community, and to feel like a missionary. We usually had the missionaries stand on the sidewalk, and the teacher and children would go up and say,” Our church class is doing a service project for the Food Pantry. Would you like to donate a canned good?” We did not want the neighbors to feel like we were ‘tricking’ them in some way. We focused on the “service” part, but felt good thanking them with the Pass Along Card. We had a class go every other week for our “Missionary Hour”.
