M*A*S*H : Modern Army Serving Him
Youth Conference called M*A*S*H : Modern Army Serving Him. We didn’t travel for Conference…we stayed in our boundaries. But, the activities included a fireside on Friday night to introduce the theme and organize everyone which afterwards there were games to get the stake youth knowing each other and had refreshments. We also handed out T-shirts that were an army-green color which on the front simply said M*A*S*H and the back said Modern Army Serving Him(the kids loved them and we saw them being worn all the time afterwards. We also divided the youth into “missions” and they were all to “report” the next morning, Saturday and 8 am in Sunday Dress to start their mission. Saturday morning, there was another mini-fireside where it was explained what was happening and there was a special musical number where a girl in the stake sang the first verse of “We Will Bring the World His Truth” and the rest of us joined in for the rest of the song (that was so neat):), everyone had donuts and juice, and then divided up into their groups, or missions. Each mission got a survey with questions that were to build interest in the church and find those who may want the missionaries to come to their home and teach the discussions. Each mission then went to a designated area in our stake and went door to door handing out the surveys and, if the person visited was able, asked them the questions. As I write this, I can see it might sound a bit daunting to send the youth out door-to-door, but there was a lot of prayer involved…leaders accompanied each group, and there were so many neat spiritual experiences. One of the neatest things at the end though, was how many referrals we were able to turn into the missionaries. It was amazing. We all then went home but returned to the stake building later than night for a dance. The next evening, Sunday…there was a testimony meeting for the youth and that too was amazing. So many of the youth had spiritual experiences and were really touched by what they had done.
