Sister Wright Goes Visiting Teaching
Before you go to Relief Society:
Fill sacks with inexpensive prize items, a little candy and some popcorn. Fold the tops of sacks over and staple each one shut.
Make certain you have plenty of sacks so no one is left without one.
Get a sister who can speak loudly (or use a mike) to read this skit.
Seat everyone in a circle (EVERYONE). Have them sitting closely enough to pass a sack to one another comfortably and give each sister a sack and tell them not to open them yet.
EXPLAIN to the sisters (seated in a circle) that they are to listen to the story and pass their sacks either left or right as they hear the word in the story. (Wright and right are both used as a signal to pass to the right)
This gets hilarious — and it is important to have the sacks different weights so they do not all feel the same so they will want some more than others. (I bought cute cups, small things at yard sales and stores for a few weeks before hand to save money)

SISTER WRIGHT GOES VISITING TEACHING
Sister Wright was so excited! She was happy that she had not left the house before the phone call from the Relief Society President, Sister Leftover.
Because if she had left, she would not have been right there when Sister Leftover called and asked her to be a visiting teacher.
Before she left her last ward, Sister. Wright had been a visiting teacher and was pleased to learn she wasn’t going to be left out of the program in the new ward.
Sister Wright immediately got out her map and traced the routes she would have to take to visit the sisters to whom she was assigned. She left tiny red marks on the map so it would be easy to follow.
Sister Wright then called her new companion. Sister Wright let the phone ring several times but no one was home. So Sister Wright left a message when the voice mail kicked in.
“Sister Companion,” said Sister Wright, “This is Sister Wright. I have been assigned as your new companion. Please call me back. If I am not home, it will mean I have left to go shopping with my daughter Janie Wright and my aunt Sharon Wright. I have left my son Tommy Wright home so he can take your call.”
“There is not much of the month left so we should schedule our visits right now. Thank you.”
Sure enough Sister Wright, Janie Wright, and Sharon Wright had left the house by the time Sister Companion returned the call. Tommy Wright had left the house for a time, but came back just in time to hear the phone ringing.
“This is the Wright home. Tommy Wright speaking,” said Tommy Wright as his mother had taught him to do.
“Oh,” said Sister Companion, “I am happy that I reached you. Your mother, Sister Wright said that if she left, I was to give you a message. Do you have a pen.”
“Yes,” said Tommy Wright.
“Okay. Since there isn’t much time left, tell her I can go out Wednesday — if that is all right with her.”
Ask Sister Wright to call and set the appointments. With my other partner, I always left that up to her. And can Sister Wright give the lesson. I left my Ensign at the dentist office.
“Now my house is hard to find, but if Sister Wright will turn right when she leaves her drive way, she should go right down that street until she sees a Waffle House on her left and turn left right there.
“Go to the second street and right away she will see that she can only turn left. So go down that street till she sees a stone alligator and then turn left right into the drive. Did you get that right?” queried Sister Companion?
“I think so,” said Tommy Wright, chewing what was left of a fingernail right down to the quick.
“Good bye and tell your mother that I will be expecting her on Wednesday.”
Sister Wright was happy to get the message left by Sister Companion with Tommy Wright.
She called to set appointments with all sisters left on her route.
On Wednesday Sr. Wright got right into her car and left the house so she would not arrive late.
She went right down the street to the Waffle House and did not see the tiny street that turned left, so she turned left at the next street.
She did not see a stone alligator anywhere and that left her confused. She could see right away that she was lost. That left her nothing to do but retrace her route.
Suddenly she saw the little drive way by the Waffle House, but now she had to turn right to get into it instead of left.
“Good Heaven’s!” cried Sister Wright, “If I turned right here I think and go down this street I should turn left again at the second street. So Sister Wright did turn right, then left and soon found the stone alligator. Breathing a sigh of relief, Sister Wright turned left into the right drive. Soon they were on their way.
She prayed sincerely that she would be able to follow the map route correctly. This time Sister Wright turned right when she was supposed to and left when it was required. Soon they had visited all their sisters.
They left a message in each home. They left a prayerful, happy feeling behind. Sister Wright and Sister Companion left their names and phone numbers so their sisters could reach them if needed.
Sister Wright went right home and gave thanks for the new sisters she had met. That left her with a happy contented feeling all day.
If you want to be left with that same happy feeling, go do the right thing!
LET THE SISTERS OPEN SACKS AND EAT THEIR TREAT. IF YOU’VE USED A LITTLE POPCORN (NO MORE THAN A CUP PER SACK) YOU MIGHT LIKE TO HAVE SOMEONE READ THE PARABLE OF THE CORN
The Parable of the Popcorn
Behold at the time of harvest the ears of corn did bring forth kernels, which were dried and prepared for the popper’s hand.
And the popper did take the kernels, all of which appeared alike unto him, and did apply the oil and the heat.
And it came to pass when the heat was on; some did explode with promise and did magnify themselves, yea, even an hundred fold.
And some did burst forth with the whiteness, which did both gladden the eye of the beholder and satisfy the taste of the popper.
And likewise, some others did pop, but not too much.
But lo, there were some that did just lie there and even thought the popper’s heat was alike unto all, they did bask in the warmth of the oil and kept everything they had for themselves.
And so it came to pass that those which had given of themselves did bring joy and delight to many munchers, but those which kept of the warmth and did not burst forth were fit only to be cast out, and were thought of with hardness and disgust.
And thus we see that in the beginning all appear alike, but when the heat is on, some come forth and give their all, while others fail to pop and become as chaff on the threshing floor, to be discarded and forgotten.
