ALTERNATIVE TO PLAY DOUGH
“Here is an alternative to play dough. I like it because it doesn’t get as messy, and the children are fascinated with the texture. We call it GAK. Here is the recipe:
In one bowl mix the following:
2 cups Elmer’s Glue
1 1/2 cups warm water
several drops of food coloring to desired color
In another bowl mix:
1 1/2 cups water
4 teaspoons Borax soap (20 Mule Team Laundry Booster)
Combine the two bowls together. At first the mixture is very stringy. Kneading it will work it to the right consistency. If you store it in an air tight container in the refrigerator it will last for months. We play with GAK using cookie cutters and rolling pins. you can roll it like a snake and even cut it with scissors.”
