We did this for a RS Birthday from Catherine W Kelly ( in UK)-THANKS CATHERINE!!
Tonight we celebrate the birthday of a truly wonderful organisation – the Relief Society
As sisters arrive – Worldwide Getting to know you
Opening Hymn: 310
Opening Prayer:
Stand for Declaration
Tonight we will look at just part of the declaration
Already we have come to realise that in our ward we are made up of worldwide sisters
We have sisters from China, Africa, Phillipines, Australia. It is wonderful to know that there are many sisters all over the world who think like us and who act like us.
Later we will try and identify each other as babies, we are all spirit daughters of God and are of royal birth.
But what about the phase in the declaration which encourages us to Delight in service and good works
As women we all know how to SERVE with a SMILE
But what about are hands – are they always willing to serve?
Isaac Newton said that he was able to accomplish what he did by “standing on the shoulders of Giants” He was able to use the knowledge, experience and wisdom from previous scientists to accomplish what he did
Instead of talking about shoulders if we move down the arms to the hands….
What can we say that we have accomplished with the help of someone eles’s hands?
We are part of a wonderful organisation – the Relief Society. It was formed in March 1842 as the Female Relief society of Nauvoo to sew clothes for the temple workers – hands that were willing to work and helped others accomplish a great thing – a building of a temple
So sisters tonight we are going to pamper your hands a little – so that you can feel that your hands are always ready to delight in service and good works. Not only will we have service with a smile but we will have hands that are ready and willing to serve (not to mention very soft!). If we learn to take a little time out for ourselves we find that we are able to give a lot more time to our family and our fellow beings.
Lesson: Hands Presentation by RS Board Members
We are going to pamper our hands with help from the scriptures – our daily guidance for everything!
John 4:14
But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life
Fill your bowls with water (make sure towels are on lap)
Psalm 24:3,4
Who shall ascend into the hills of the Lord? Or who shall stand in his holy place?
He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully
So lets put some milk into our bowls – milk is there to represent the purity
(also help to soften the hands and build up weak nails)
Soak your hands for a while now whilst you chat
Matthew 5:13
Ye are the salt of the earth but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under the foot of men
Put one tablespoon of salt onto your palm
D&C 33:17
Wherefore be faithful, praying always, having your lamps trimmed and burning and oil with you, that you may be ready at the coming of the bridegroom
Put one tablespoon of olive oil on top of the salt
Hand Massage – keeping hands over the bowl!
We are the salt of the earth, if we are prepared and carry extra oil, if our hands are willing and we follow our Saviour’s pattern of life and service, our hands will be found clean, our hearts pure and we will never thirst as we dwell once more with Him!
